Monomoy Writes
After much time, we are so happy to introduce Monomoy Writes, a new home for student authors. The pure talent held at MRHS is finally being unleashed, with the union of The Bite and Sandscript ensuring that a vast catalog is available for all types of readers. Now, everyone can read informative articles, entertaining reviews, striking stories, and personal poems from our wide array of remarkable young writers in one place, whether in the comfort of your own home or favorite café or maybe even school (at appropriate times, of course). For students, this is a great opportunity to share your ideas with the world; for teachers, this is a great way to connect with your students; and for parents/guardians, this is the perfect way to see your child's work, with insights into the Monomoy life and their opinions on important topics.
Fourteen pieces have been posted today, encompassing our first "edition" of content, eight being remarkable reports from The Bite and six being poignant poems from Sandscript. But expect much more to come, as we hope to continuously release work throughout the school year, meaning you can always come back with something new to read.
As mentioned, two clubs make up this site: newspaper and creative writing. The Bite, our journalistic half, is run by English teacher Meghan Peterson, with seniors Talia Perez and Emily Gray as co-editors. They have meetings on Day 5 during Jawsome B. Sandscript, on the other hand, is run by English and creative writing teacher Lisa Forte-Doyle, with senior Ashley Smith acting as president. Meetings are on Day 3 during Jawsome B. Both groups already had heavy synergy, many students being active in both far before the creation of Writes. That, if anything, is what makes this joining of forces so natural, it acting as a glue for a bond long held with mere threads prior.
When it comes to this site itself, there is one man to contact: Jason Elhilow! He's long held a passion for sharing the magic writing can bring to the world, it helping him greatly in expressing myself and evolving as a person, so it was a no-brainer for some of his content to crossover from WRTN to Writes to help build our roster. If you have any suggestions for this site, whether it be functionality questions or accessibility requests or anything else that comes to mind, just email him.
Monomoy Writes is simply a medium to give MRHS's finest authors their best chance of being seen, of being celebrated, and nothing can be more exciting than that. This has been a mission in the making for far more time than imaginable, and now, more than ever, is when it is needed. So join us; see what amazing things the next generation has to say. You won't regret it.
