MRHS Music DepartmentIntroductionOn December 19th, the annual MRHS Winter Concert was put on, and the talent showcased by the band and choir students completely blew all expectations. Between the impressive tracklist, stunning solos, and flawless group performances, the night was nothing short of amazing. Here’s a full breakdown of the show.
ChorusThe chorus was divided into two ensembles: the general choir and the select choir. Both groups performed a range of winter-themed pieces, including Peace On Earth, Sleigh Ride, and Joy To The World. The choir delivered harmonious performances, with standout solos, particularly from bass vocalist Xavier Doyle, whose range captivated the audience.
Concert BandThe concert band, comprising both general and jazz ensembles, presented memorable renditions of Ukrainian Bell Carol, Wintertide, and Celtic Carol. The ensemble’s diverse instrumentation, from bass and flutes to French horns, brought the music to life. Visual elements such as projected snowfall and expertly designed lighting heightened the immersive experience.
Jazz BandThe jazz band delivered the most striking segment of the evening with performances of Recado Bossa Nova, Song For My Father, and Mooncussers' Shuffle. Under the musical direction of Wayne Naus, the band impressed with powerful saxophone, trombone, and percussion solos. Guitarist Thomas Marchio delivered an especially remarkable solo, while Simon MacBride showcased exceptional drumming technique alongside a standout piano performance from Marchio's brother Christopher.
