1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Monologs ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your personal data when you use the Monologs app.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Please read this policy carefully. By using the Monologs app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.

Monologs is the data controller for personal data collected through this app.

As a data controller, we are responsible for deciding how and why your personal data is used.
3. What Data We Collect and Why
We collect only the data necessary to operate the platform and provide you with our services.
3.1 Account Data
Name — used for identity and display on your profile.
Email address — used for account login, notifications, and communications.
Date of birth — used for age verification and minor safety protections.
Password — stored as a secure hash, never in plain text, used for account security.
Account type (actor or director) — used for platform functionality.
Google account ID (if signing in with Google) — used for authentication.
3.2 Actor Profile Data
Profile photo and headshot — displayed publicly on your profile.
Performance videos — displayed publicly on your profile and in the feed.
Location — used for search, casting matching, and proximity ranking. For users under 18, only region or country is shown publicly, not exact city.
Playing age range — used for casting eligibility matching.
Gender (optional) — used for casting matching.
Height (optional) — used for casting matching.
Accents and languages — used for search and casting matching.
Skills and experience — displayed on your profile and used in search.
Credits — displayed on your profile.
Representation details (optional) — displayed on your profile.
Spotlight profile link (optional) — displayed on your profile.
3.3 Director and Casting Professional Profile Data
Name and company name — displayed on your profile.
Location — displayed on your profile.
Profile photo — displayed on your profile.
Casting calls posted — used for platform functionality.
3.4 Minor User Data (ages 13-17 only)
Parent or guardian email address — used for safeguarding and as a professional contact route for casting enquiries. Stored securely, never displayed publicly in full, never used for marketing, and never shared with third parties except where required by law or in urgent child safety situations.
3.5 Usage and Activity Data
Videos liked, saved, and commented on — used for platform functionality and notifications.
Casting calls viewed and applied to — used for platform functionality.
Feed viewing history — used to personalise your feed algorithm.
Profile views received — used for aggregated actor analytics, visible only to you.
Messages and conversations — used for the platform messaging feature.
Casting application details and notes — used for platform functionality.
Reports submitted — used for platform safety and moderation.
3.6 Technical Data
Device push notification token — used to send you notifications from Monologs.
App version — used for technical support.
Crash reports (anonymised) — used for bug fixing and platform improvement.
Last active timestamp — used for presence indicators, shown only to mutual follows.
3.7 Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect payment card details or any financial information. We do not collect government identification documents. We do not collect biometric data. We do not track your GPS location. We do not access contacts from your phone. We do not collect your browsing history outside of the app.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to create and manage your account, display your profile to other users, power the feed algorithm, enable casting professionals to discover actors, process casting applications, send you notifications, provide the messaging feature, generate analytics visible only to you, enforce our Terms and Conditions, investigate reports and keep the platform safe, comply with legal obligations including child protection requirements, and improve and develop the platform.
We do not use your data for advertising, for selling to third-party advertisers, for profiling unrelated to the platform, or for automated decision-making that has significant legal effects on you.
5. Marketing Communications
If you opted in to receive marketing communications when creating your account, we may send you occasional emails about new features, platform updates, and industry news relevant to the acting and casting community.
You can opt out at any time by clicking unsubscribe in any marketing email, updating your preferences in Settings within the app, or contacting us at monologsapp@gmail.com.
Opting out of marketing will not affect service-related communications such as password reset emails or important account notifications.
6. Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers.
We share data only with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the platform. All providers are bound by data processing agreements and may only use your data to provide their service to us.
Supabase — provides our database, authentication, and file storage. Based in the EU (Frankfurt).
Cloudflare R2 — provides video storage and global delivery. Based in the EU and globally, under Standard Contractual Clauses.
Railway — provides video processing (FFmpeg transcoding).
Expo and EAS — provides app build and distribution infrastructure. Based in the USA, under Standard Contractual Clauses.
Apple — provides App Store distribution. Based in the USA, under Standard Contractual Clauses.
Google — provides authentication if you use Google Sign-In. Based in the USA, under Standard Contractual Clauses.
Nominatim and OpenStreetMap — provides location autocomplete. No personal data is sent, only location text. Based in the EU.
We may disclose personal data to law enforcement, regulatory bodies, or other authorities where required by law or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person, particularly in cases involving child safety or serious criminal activity.
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business, user data may be transferred to the acquiring party. We will notify users of any such transfer.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide our services.
When you delete your account, your profile information, videos, messages, comments, and casting applications are permanently deleted within 30 days. Anonymised aggregated data may be retained for platform analytics. Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before being fully purged.
Account and profile data is retained until account deletion plus 30 days.
Performance videos are retained until deleted by you or until account deletion plus 30 days.
Messages are retained until deleted by you or until account deletion plus 30 days.
Casting applications are retained until account deletion plus 30 days.
Reports and moderation records are retained for up to 3 years for fraud prevention and legal compliance.
Guardian email for minor users is retained until account deletion or until the user turns 18, plus 30 days.
Anonymised analytics are retained for up to 3 years.
Crash logs (anonymised) are retained for 90 days.
8. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
As a UK resident, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data.
Right of access — you can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. We will respond within 30 days.
Right to rectification — you can request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete data. You can also update most data directly in the app.
Right to erasure — you can request deletion of your personal data. You can also delete your account directly in Settings. Some data may be retained where we have legitimate legal grounds.
Right to restriction of processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data while a dispute is resolved.
Right to data portability — you can request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. We will stop unless we have compelling legitimate grounds.
Rights related to automated decision-making — we do not make solely automated decisions that have significant effects on you.
Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

9. Children's Privacy and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code
We take children's privacy extremely seriously and comply with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.
For users under 18, we disable direct messaging entirely, display only country or region location rather than exact city, store and protect guardian email securely for safeguarding purposes only, apply the highest privacy settings by default, and do not use data about minors for profiling or marketing.
For users under 13, we do not knowingly collect data. If we discover a user is under 13, we will delete their account and all associated data immediately. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us immediately at monologsapp@gmail.com.
Parents or guardians of users under 18 may contact us at monologsapp@gmail.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child's data, or to raise safeguarding concerns.
10. Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data. All data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS and TLS. Passwords are stored using industry-standard one-way hashing and never in plain text. Our database uses row-level security to ensure users can only access permitted data. Access to our systems is restricted to authorised personnel. We conduct regular security reviews and implement automatic session expiry and token refresh.
No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at monologsapp@gmail.com and change your password.
In the event of a personal data breach likely to result in risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO within 72 hours and affected users without undue delay, as required by UK GDPR.
11. Cookies and Analytics
The Monologs app does not use cookies. We use anonymised, aggregated analytics to understand how the app is used and to improve performance. We do not use third-party advertising networks or trackers. We do not sell analytical data.
12. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers process data outside the United Kingdom. Where personal data is transferred to countries not deemed adequate by the UK government, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the ICO.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. The updated policy will always be available in the app under Settings. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
