My husband, Joe, bought me a Vivitar 35 mm camera in June of 1974. It had two extra lenses and an attached flash. Of course, neither the focus nor the light meter was automatic, but I was obviously ecstatic. I published my first set of pictures of Crawford High School students in the fall of 1975. I took some of my Homecoming photos to the Crawford Tribune. John Saunders used two of them in the paper. I was thrilled. I soon began helping the Crawford High School Journalism class, and eventually helped them set up a darkroom on the third floor. I think the door, to what is now a closet, still bears the title "Dark Room." I also began to photograph events and students from Sioux County.
