SportsKeeda is India's emerging and fastest growing sports web portal; welcomes passionate sports lovers to kick-start their sports journalism career.
How did it all begin?
Back then, I was looking for sports websites where I could work as a freelancer or cover events / tournaments of my choice due to technical issues at my place.
SportsKeeda perfectly fit that spot. I signed up with them, and started working.
My role at SportsKeeda
As a freelancer, I covered cricket and hockey with them.
I worked under no supervision, set deadlines for myself, and delivered work before time.
I marked the events that I wanted to cover, did content planning in advance, and executed the content strategy for the same.
Responsibilities
Freelance sports content writing with prime focus on cricket.
Promote articles online to increase readership.
Sourcing high-quality and eye-pleasing images for the articles.
Build a fan following on social media to establish self as a writer.
Re-sharing articles on my sports blog, Plant "M", for keeping a record of my work and exhibit my skills.
Key takeaways
How to work in a disciplined manner without being supervised.
Covering sports events via a pre-planned content strategy.
Developing content in different formats like listicles and infographics.
How to cover different sports events LIVE in the form of content writing.
I was probably the first writer who started content writing in the form of infographics for SportsKeeda.
My first attempt to use DataViz (read infographics) in content writing brought me praises + an unpaid work opportunity with MoneyGram, which I declined.
Achievements
I was successful in covering events / tournaments without any supervision in a timely manner.
I upgraded myself from a reporter to a multimedia writer by creating infographics to cover sports events.
I covered ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2014, ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2014, and Hockey India League 2014 during my tenure.
My articles also got publsihed on Yahoo! Sports as part of SportsKeeda's content distribution partnership with Yahoo! India.
Overall, I wrote 13 articles that received 57,970+ readership; out of which one crossed 15K+ mark(as of 2025).
