Guidelines for Letters of Recommendation

I am happy to support students through letters of recommendation when the following criteria are met. These guidelines are in place to ensure that I can write strong, detailed, and meaningful letters that genuinely reflect a student’s preparation and performance.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Coursework with Me

   • Students must have completed at least two (2) courses with me.

   • At least one of these courses must be Calculus I (Math 141) or higher.

   • I do not write letters for students whose only coursework with me is Math 110 or Math 140.
     
     

2. Minimum Academic Performance

   • A minimum grade of A− in my courses is required.

   • Grades alone are not sufficient; I must be able to speak to your mathematical maturity, work ethic, and engagement.
     
     

3. Research Experience (Alternative Path)

   • Students who have conducted research under my supervision (e.g., Senior Seminar, independent study, or mentored research projects) may request a letter even if they do not meet the two-course requirement, provided I can meaningfully assess their work.

   • Requests must be made at least one (1) month in advance of the deadline.

   • Short-notice or last-minute requests cannot be accommodated.
     
     

Professional Expectations

   • A list of programs, positions, or scholarships with deadlines

   • Any required submission instructions (e.g., portals, links, formats)
     
     

6. Right to Decline
   
   

   • I reserve the right to decline requests if I feel I cannot write a strong and honest letter that would benefit the student.
