[why this is important]
I recently earned my M.S. in mathematics after finishing my second year as a graduate student at Virginia Tech. My master's thesis, which I completed under the guidance of Dr. Gretchen Matthews and Dr. Hiram López, is titled Automorphisms of Hermitian Codes and Applications. I will be staying at Virginia Tech to pursue my Ph.D. under the guidance of Dr. Gretchen Matthews.
I received my B.S. in mathematics from Georgia College & State University, Georgia's public liberal arts university, in December of 2023. I was selected as the recipient of the 2024 College of Arts & Sciences Medallion for the Division of Science & Mathematics.
Prior to beginning graduate school, I participated in the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) Summer Program. The program and the people I've met through it have had a lasting impact on my life and career as a mathematician, and I cannot recommend the program enough.
I was the secretary for VT's AWM Student Chapter during the 2025-2026 academic year, and I will be the chapter's president for the 2026-2027 academic year. In fall of 2025, I planned an escape room as one of our chapter's events. I also adapted the story and puzzles for a holiday escape room for the Blacksburg Math Circle. If you are interested in using the materials I created, see my Event Resources page.
If you are a student at a smaller/liberal arts college or university considering graduate school in mathematics, or if you are a student considering Virginia Tech for graduate school, feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. I would be more than happy to answer!
