Monday Blitz Evenings

Decisions

This page is for official decisions on particular cases.

The decisions are arranged in the reverse chronological order.

4 January 2024: Jana Adámková's random prize

According to Jana's request, her prize won in the random draw for the period July - September 2023 will be redistributed for the next random draw, namely for the fourth quarter of 2023 (October - December). In effect, four players will win the prize instead of three.

2 January 2024: Qualifications to the Grand Final of 2023

Due to resignation of both Márk Horváth and Petr Žižka, we decided to give wild cards to two players for their excellent performance in whole competition in 2023 - Adam Horváth and Andrei Matei.

5 December 2023: Qualifications in December

Due to the resignation of both Matīss Riherts and Oleksandr Miroshnichenko, 3 players will qualify to the Grand Final of 2023 from December, 2023.

7 August 2023: Cancellation of the tournaments planned on Monday 14 August

Taking into account the upcoming Gomoku World Championship 2023 is set on the period 10-19 August, as well as the fact that many MBE participants registered to this event, we decided to cancel the tournaments planned on Monday 14 August.

The next MBE tournaments will be held on Monday 21 August.

5 January 2023: Moving the tournaments back to Playok.com

The Monday Blitz Evenings tournament series will stay on Playok.com until further notice (at least until the end of the first quarter of 2023). We apologize for the inconveniences.

31 December 2022: Nickname change for Michał Żukowski

Michał will continue in MBE under the nickname "mbeetle", however, for the Grand Final of 2022 he will be using "mbeweakest".

30 December 2022: Moving the tournaments to Gomoku.com

The Monday Blitz Evenings tournament series continue on www.gomoku.com in 2023. We kindly ask all participants to ensure they register their nicknames on the website as well as inform one of the organisers about the created nick so that they can be added to the contacts of mondayblitz.

30 December 2022: Discontinuing collecting libs from tournament games

The organisers decided to discontinue collecting libs from tournament games due to low interest.

20 December 2022: Postponing tournaments planned for 26th December

The organisers decided to postpone the MBE tournaments from 26th December to 27th December due to Christmas. The starting time remains 20:00 CET.

9 October 2022: Michał Żukowski's random prize

According to Michał's request, his prize won in the random draw for the period July - September 2022 will be redistributed for the next random draw, namely for the last quarter of 2022 (October - December). In effect, four players will win the prize instead of three.

19 September 2022: Compensations for premature start of the second tournament

Due to a mistake from the organizer's side, the second tournament was scheduled to 20:25 instead of the usual 20:30, which ended up in Bogdan Brachaczek and Kacper Wojtyra missing the tournament. As a compensation we decided to give each of them 7 points.

10 September 2022: Temporary ban for Ferenc Rostás

Ferenc Rostás is banned from MBE tournaments until the end of 2022 due to a serious violation of the rules, namely a public written death threat against another MBE participant. Taking into consideration that one of our goals is a friendly atmosphere during the MBE tournaments, any similar action in the future will result in a permanent ban from the competition.

1 August 2022: Jana Adámková's random prize

According to Jana's request, her prize won in the random draw for the period January - March 2022 should have been redistributed for the previous random draw, namely for the second quarter of 2022 (April - June).

However, due to a mistake on the organisers' part, the redistribution shall be rescheduled for the next random draw, namely for the third quarter of 2022 (July - September). In effect, four players will win the prize instead of three.

6 June 2022: Temporary ban for Ashot Avetisyan

Ashot Avetisyan is banned from MBE tournaments until the end of June 2022, due to repeated violation of rules. On 29 March 2022 he received an official warning (see below) after losing on purpose against Matiss Riherts, yet he repeated the same action on 6 June 2022 against Oleksandr Miroshnichenko.

The game is available here.

The grounds for this decision are analogous to those from the previous decision, namely Clause 8.5 of the MBE rules and consistency of Ashot's unfair behaviour.

3 April 2021: Łukasz Majksner's random prize

According to Łukasz's request, his prize won in the random draw for the period January - March 2022 will be redistributed for the next random draw, namely for the second quarter of 2022 (April - June). In effect, four players will win the prize instead of three.

29 March 2022: Official warning for Ashot Avetisyan

During an MBE tournament played on Monday 28 March, Ashot Avetisyan lost a game on purpose against Matīss Riherts.

The game is available here.

Despite the organisers' usual practice coming from Clause 8.5, i.e., taking no action in case of apparent purposeful losing a game to someone, we decided to take a closer look into the case due to the following reasons:
(1) it was one of the last tournaments played during a month,
(2) the game could affect the final standings, in particular determining the player advancing to the Grand Final.

Taking into account Ashot's clear intention to lose the game, as well as the likelihood of affecting the final standings, we decided to apply Clause 8.1.4 in this particular case. We consider precedents to be of utmost importance. Therefore, if we consider a case important in terms of fairness and equal treatment, we may put a precedent above typical approach coming from the rules.

The decision is as follows:

Ashot Avetisyan is officially warned for his unfair behaviour, i.e., losing on purpose against Matīss Riherts.

This time we decided to not penalize Ashot for his action, taking into consideration that it was the first such situation. If, however, Ashot or any other MBE participant takes a similar unfair action in the future, they will surely bear the consequences, including a temporary ban from the competition.

8 March 2022: Concerning Russian invasion of Ukraine

After thorough consideration of the complaints and the negative effect following our previous decision, we decided to revoke it and accept the wishes of the community. From now on, Russian participants are allowed to play under Russian flag.

At the same time, we would like to highlight that we strictly condemn the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

28 February 2022: Concerning Russian invasion of Ukraine

Players representing Russia are all allowed to participate in the competition, however, under international flag. The aim of the decision is to condemn the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, yet staying rational and avoiding to punish innocent individuals. Russia cannot be represented in the MBE until further notice. Effective immediately.

4 January 2021: Zoltán László's random prize

According to Zoltán's request, his prize won in the random draw for the period November - December 2021 will be redistributed for the next random draw, namely for the first quarter of 2022 (January - March). In effect, four players will win the prize instead of three.
