Molecular structure — function laboratory

Make and measure

We are a team of researchers focused on biological problems that can be solved by the applications of innovative chemistry.

Search for bioactive compounds is primarily dependent on molecular starting points. We are devising sequences of reactions to generate structurally-complex molecules.

To take full advantage of progress made in mass spectrometry, we need molecules that selectively interact with protein or nucleic acid targets and are custom-made for proteomic experiments.

We are investigating molecular mechanism of action of several bioactive molecules discovered through high-throughput screens.

Our group is one of several research groups within the Department of Medicinal Chemistry that are all focused on studying and altering life processes at the molecular level. The department covers a spectrum of approaches unified by a goal to shape medicine of the future.

We are part of a research-intensive public university situated in Lawrence, 30 minutes west of Kansas City. KU is the site of several Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence which facilitate collaborations and exchange of ideas.
