Abstract:
This study aims to research the relationship between self-objectification and social media. Self-objectification theory proposes some people view themselves as an object rather than a subject. This study researched the relationship between age, hours spent on social media, and participants’ tendency to self objectify. Hypothesis 1: there is a positive correlation between frequency on social media and a higher tendency to self-objectify. Hypothesis 2: older individuals will experience a lower tendency to self-objectify compared to younger participants. Results show that there is no significant relationship between our two main variables. Moreover, there is no significant relationship between our two main variables against age.
