Molecular Plant Pathology Lab

Disease Diagnosis, Research, and Extension- NARC

Welcome to the Molecular Plant Pathology Lab!

Plants are suffering from varieties of stresses, including biotic and abiotic. The stresses have been increasing at an incredible rate due to climate change. The Molecular Plant Pathology Lab (MPPL) at NARC  (Nepal Agriculture Research Council), studies basic and applied aspects of plant pathology with the aim to improve national capacity in plant disease management. We use various conventional, omics, and machine learning tools to detect diseases, characterize pathogens, predict and forecast diseases; and develop strategies to manage them in a sustainable manner. We specialized in soilborne diseases, diagnosing pathogens, and forecasting plant diseases. The current studies include national surveillance of plant viral diseases, early detection of citrus greening by molecular and multispectral imaging, genotypic and phenotypic characterization of agriculturally important microbes including pathogens and beneficial microbes, and exploring sustainable tools for controlling soil-borne diseases.
