Sajal Sen, PhD
After completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees from RKMRC Narendrapur and IIT Kanpur, respectively, Sajal moved to USA to obtain his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan L. Sessler. Sajal's PhD research was focused on the development of gold N-heterocyclic carbenes based anticancer drugs and their use as chemoimmunotherapy agents. In 2021, Sajal joined the group of Prof. Alan Jasanoff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Simons postdoctoral fellow. At MIT, Sajal worked on developing multimodal MRI probes, built on a porphyrinoid chemical framework, for investigating intracellular calcium and cholinergic activity in the brain. In December 2024, Sajal joined Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) as a postdoctoral fellow in the Frank Lab, where he developed cannabinoid-based photopharmacophores to study substance use disorder in the brain. Before embarking on his journey at IITB as an assistant professor in May 2026, Sajal started his independent career at NISER in December 2025. Besides his research and teaching, Sajal finds interest in following sports, watching sci-fi movies, and traveling to national parks.
