AIR, EIR, and PAIR: The Record Layer

If the Mold Risk Envelope defines where mold risk begins, and environmental proof explains how recognized instability becomes durable evidence, then AIR, EIR, and PAIR together represent the record layer that allows the truth of environmental condition to be preserved across time.

This record layer matters because environmental problems are too often lost between observation and consequence. A building may experience recurrence, moisture burden, incomplete drying, atmospheric instability, or hidden deterioration, yet without a disciplined way to preserve those conditions, the truth becomes fragmented. One reading is taken, then forgotten. One complaint is made, then minimized. One inspection happens, then the chronology disappears. AIR, EIR, and PAIR exist to solve that deeper problem by preserving condition at different but related levels.

Atmospheric Integrity Records, or AIR, preserve atmospheric chronology. They capture the sequence of atmospheric condition over time: humidity behavior, temperature pattern, recurrence, persistence, transition, recovery, and environmental drift. EIR makes it possible to preserve not merely what the air was doing, but what the environment as a whole was becoming.

PAIR, or Personal Atmospheric Integrity Record, extends this logic into the lived human environment. PAIR exists because environmental truth is not only about buildings in abstraction. It is also about what people are actually living inside. PAIR preserves atmospheric and environmental condition in relation to personal continuity, exposure, and human experience over time. In its fullest vision, PAIR makes it possible to understand not just that a building drifted into instability, but that a person was present within that chronology, living, working, breathing, recovering, or suffering inside the conditions the record preserves.

This is what makes the record layer so important. AIR, EIR, and PAIR are not competing records. They are related records operating at different levels of truth.

PAIR preserves lived atmospheric continuity in relation to the individual.

Together, they create a stronger structure than any one layer alone. AIR can show the atmospheric chronology by which instability developed. EIR can show the broader environmental reality of that instability within the building and its materials. PAIR can connect that preserved chronology to the human being living within it. In that way, the record layer creates a far more complete account of environmental truth than traditional mold response has ever been able to preserve.
