FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

As a mentor, I will always encourage all my students to apply for their own funding opportunities. There's several important reasons behind it:

1) Writing skills:  Applying for a fellowship is a great exercise to improve your writing skills, to acquire theoretical background on the topic that you are working on, to set your own hypothesis and to design your experiments.

2) Significantly improves your CV

3) Guarantees your own support for a time period

4) Many awards/fellowships include travel funds (= extra opportunity for presenting your work in a conference/meeting) and research funds (= learning how to efficiently assign limited economic resources to obtain reagents, etc.. is a critical step in your career)
