This thesis explores the design and implementation of a dedicated rest and service facility for GRAB drivers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, addressing the growing demand for e-hailing services and the associated challenges. GRAB drivers face significant issues such as the lack of proper rest areas, health risks from sedentary driving, and the need for safe, convenient waiting spaces. The proposed facility, located near Jalan Dang Wangi and Medan Tuanku Monorail Station, aims to provide a comprehensive solution.
The facility includes a cafeteria, retail kiosks, car wash and service areas, and a capsule hotel for drivers needing longer breaks. The design concept focuses on creating a supportive and efficient environment that enhances the well-being of GRAB drivers and promotes sustainable urban mobility. Key features include a dedicated car park with proper ventilation, community areas for social interaction and physical activity, and various rest and relaxation facilities such as massage rooms, a mini-library, gym, and game area.
By providing a safe and well-equipped space for drivers to rest and recharge, the facility aims to improve their quality of life and contribute positively to the urban infrastructure. This thesis demonstrates the project's potential for successful implementation and its positive impact on the community, offering a model for similar initiatives in other cities.
