Teaching

I believe that there are many reasons why we need to teach our upcoming generations’ things which are necessary to their future. At first thought, there are some reasons that universally apply to the profession. There are still other reasons like: imparting knowledge, making knowledge work, making the world a better place and motivating tomorrow’s citizens to live up to their potential.

As a matter of fact, teachers who promote reflective classrooms ensure that students are fully engaged in the process of making meaning. They organize instructions so that students are the producers, not just the consumers, of knowledge. To best guide students in the habits of reflection, the teacher acts as an intermediary between the learner and the learning, guiding each student to approach the learning activity in a strategic way. The teacher helps each student, monitor individual progress, construct meaning from the content learned and from the process of learning it, and apply the learning to other contexts and settings. Learning becomes a continual process of engaging the mind that transforms the mind.

Therefore, I am looking at learning as a process that is happening step by step. When somebody has learnt something this means others also can, so everybody can learn. Of course, they differ in the amount of efforts they need and in the learning style. I see myself in class as the one whose responsibility is to facilitate each student’s learning process and this will happen only when I consider different learning style that each student may have apart from their background, weaknesses and so on. I have tried to learn how to deal with this issue by attending teaching classes, seminars, and using other groups’ experiences as well. Therefore, to reach the above goal I utilize the most appropriate kind of teaching strategy in class.

Bringing knowledge to students is my focal point in my class. I have tried many learning techniques to get their attention and ease the flow of information. I used popup questions, false information, group discussing, bonuses and many other techniques to motivate the student participation. I linked most of my subjects with the latest technical news if available. Students had learned the relation of what they were taught with their local or national environment.

Moreover, according to level of the students sitting in class, whether they are first year or second year student and if they are degree or diploma, and also taking into consideration the purpose and type of the subjects I expect all students reach a certain level of learning. Therefore, the learning outcome of the subject and the assessment will support this proper learning level for the particular subject and its audience. I insist to make sure that all students are on the right track. Asking questions, giving class/lab exercise and assignment are the common strategies to check them. According to the feedback I get from each student, I can understand their problem. So far, I will take the necessary actions to maximize class participation.

In computer science, which is my field, to enhance students understanding, several teaching strategies are needed. For introducing new concepts, it is helpful to explain and to define new terminologies and then relate the concepts to real life examples. In my opinion, using diagrams, animations or any visual illustration would help student to understand and simply imagine complex concepts. Besides, since the majority of computer science courses involve complex algorithms, problem solving. So strategies, that help students to invoke thinking and analysis skills, are needed.

Eventually, I am a passionate, enthusiastic engineer and thrive on developing quality projects giving utmost importance to hard work, time management and socializing. Moreover, I have a very strong computer programming skills which I acquired throughout my study and work experiences. In the last several years, computer science technology has advanced rapidly and computers are now so prevalent that they are being used in all aspect of life. Thus, I am giving myself enough time to read a new research and/ or learning process. Teaching strategies is always helpful that helps us to improve our methods and even replace them by new ones according to new findings. To fulfill this objective, I am always searching for new publications in my field as well as teaching seminars which are providing us with latest findings. I consider myself a student whose learning process never ends.
