ABOUT:
I am Mohammad Yeasin, a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and a graduate researcher in the Biomedical and Bioinspired Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (Basu Lab).
My research focuses on computational and theoretical fluid dynamics modeling, supported by tabletop experimental studies, to investigate transport phenomena in complex biological systems. My broader research interests include biomathematical modeling, multiphase flow modeling, AI/ML-assisted CFD, reduced-order modeling, and fluid–structure/environment interaction.
More specifically, I work on respiratory flow physics, computational aerosol transport and regional deposition, pulmonary and nasal drug delivery, airway infection mechanics, and CFD analysis of patient-specific, CT-derived anatomical airway models. My Ph.D. research particularly focuses on airborne pathogen transmission, viral infection dynamics, and respiratory drug delivery, combining fluid mechanics, transport modeling, and biological considerations to better understand respiratory flow physics.
Alongside my biomedical research, I have professional experience in additive manufacturing, mold design, production processes, and engineering management from my work as an Assistant Engineer in the R&D department at Energypac Engineering Ltd.
In addition to my research and engineering experience, I have developed strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills through serving as a class representative, student research mentoring, outreach activities, and leadership roles in student organizations. These experiences have strengthened my ability to collaborate effectively across academic, research, and industrial environments while maintaining a strong focus on teamwork, mentorship, communication, and practical problem-solving.
