Eid al-Adha: It recalls the story of how God commanded Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as a test of faith (the story is of Abraham and Isaac in the Hebrew Torah and Christian Old Testament). The story, as narrated in the Quran, describes Satan’s attempt to tempt Ibrahim so he would disobey God’s command. Ibrahim, however, remains unmoved and informs Ismail, who is willing to be sacrificed. But, just as Ibrahim attempts to kill his son, God intervenes and a ram is sacrificed in place of Ismail. This story has institutionalized the idea of sacrifice in Islam and continues to be commemorated each year.
Eid literally means a “festival” or “feast” in Arabic. It is celebrated twice a year as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Fitr: The fast, in this instance, is that of Ramadan, which recalls the revealing of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
The Eid prayer is generally followed by the sermon and the attendees ask Allah for forgiveness, mercy, peace, and blessings for everyone in the world.

Diwali celebration in the Campus, IIT Mandi 2017.
Diwali, or Deepavali, a Sanskrit word meaning “rows of lighted lamps,” is a Hindu-originated festival celebrated in India and by the Indian diaspora. During the five-day celebration- also known as the “festival of lights”- clay lamps known as Diyas are lit to signify the victory of good over evil, according to the Hindu American Foundation.
Over time, Diwali has become a national festival marked by most Indians regardless of faith, with Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs also celebrating. Diwali also celebrates the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi. Some believe it falls on her birthday and the day she married Lord Vishnu, another Hindu god.
