Welcome to my webpage!

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at Iowa State University.

My primary research interest centers on macroeconomic growth and development in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where I aim to understand the institutions that underpin the economic environment and their impact on economic development. My current focus is on structural transformation and fertility. My current research focuses on the intersection of property rights and fertility, property rights and rural-urban migration, and the adoption of agricultural technology.

My research questions are informed by my personal experiences growing up in rural SSA, which instill a profound connection to the region and the questions I seek to address.

I am on the job market and available for interviews. I can be contacted at msalat@iastate.edu
