I believe that you must truly love what you do to be a great teacher. Myself, I have a deep passion for teaching, in particular to environmental sustainability. My approach is to infect my students with the idea of following goals they are passionate and enthusiastic about so that when they reflect on the past, they can say with confidence “I’m glad I am doing something I love”.
The following list is my teaching subjects which also resembles my field of area. As I am just started in the USM, I am still learning how to create conducive student-teacher environment that can support my 21st Century Class Room.
1. Modelling of Water Pollution Concentrations at Abandoned Sand Mine Pond in Bukit Mertajam by using Spatial Distribution Technique by Muhammad Fariq Fakhriy bin Maslan
2. Modelling of Pollutants Loadings within river tributaries in USM by using QUAL2K by Ng Yin Xuan
3. Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticle for Physico-Chemical Treatment of Fish Processing Wastewater by Nurul Nasuha Nadhirah Binti Mohd Shukri
In the academic session 2017, I am blessed to be given the opportunity to supervise three final year projects. The students carried out their FYP within my research grant objectives. I can say that the work carried out by them contributed more than 50% of the grant objectives. Here are the topics for their FYP:
1. Determination of Optimum Mixture Ratio of Composting Materials by using Semi Passive Aerated Reactor
2. A Study on Food Waste Generation Rate, Composition and Characteristic Produced from Bakti Permai Cafeteria, USM
3. The Effects of Differential Inoculants on the Decomposition of Food Waste
My first lab rats. They succeeded!
These are my students carrying out another 50% of the research grant objectives for the academic year 2018:
1. Food Waste decomposition by Hot Water Bath Method: Effects of Chemical Characteristics (Ira)
2. The Effect of Hot Water Bath Method on the Macronutrient of Food Waste Compositions (Nana)
3. The Effect of Pre-treatment on Saccharification of Food Waste (Haziq Hanif)
I also have co-supervision status with my colleague:
1. Development of Modified Rice Husk embedded in Sodium Alginate for removal of Heavy Metal from Synthetic Wastewater (Fatin Aina)
2. Banana Pith as Natural Adsorbent to remove Oil and Grease (O&G) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) from Commercial Kitchen Wastewater (Siti Nurhayati)
3. Disinfection Efficiency of Fish Processing Wastewater by using Ionic Cupric Copper as Biochemical Treatment (Leow Ewe Teik)
I wish they success in their works with flying colours!
