Like many luthiers, Mitch Moehring is a musician turned maker based in Kilgore, TX USA. He is an award-winning luthier specializing in making double basses using less conventional tonewoods. Mitch earned a degree in music education from Northwestern State University, with a focus on jazz and orchestral double bass. He is a contributor to The International Society of Bassist’s "Bassworld" and Fine Woodworking Magazine; and "The Strad Magazine" passionately writing about tonewood preservation and ergonomically correct instrument making. Mitch's basses are being played in symphony orchestras, jazz combos and solo performances. His basses have received a Silver medal for tone, Certificate for tone and Top "5" at the International Society of Bassists Makers competition. Mitch Is proud to serve on the ISB's board of directors as the Luthier and Vendor chair.
