The workshop will take place at Mkwawa University College (MUCE). This is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Dar es Salaam, located in Iringa, Tanzania, a beautifully serene, and lush venue with a rich history. It is about 3km from the Iringa Municipal Centre and 120 km to Ruaha National Park. Historically, MUCE was first established as a secondary school called St. Michael and St. George’s School, under the British colonial rule, and it is also in part the setting of Rosa Mistika written by the late Euphrase Kezilahabi, who was a distinguished Professor at the University of Dar es Salaam. MUCE is named after the Hehe ruler and anti-colonial war hero Chief Mkwawa (Mkwavinyika Munyigumba Mwamuyinga). You can read more about MUCE here (www.muce.udsm.ac.tz).
Iringa itself is a charming town with a pleasant climate, friendly atmosphere, and a variety of restaurants, cafés and good accommodations. It is easily accessible by bus from many parts of Eastern and Southern Africa (either via Mbeya from the south, Dodoma from the north(-west), or Dar-es-Salaam. There is also a local airport with daily flights to and from Dar-es-Salaam for connections with international flights. You can read more about how to reach Iringa and its climate conditions here: https://www.muce.udsm.ac.tz/index.php/international-students/preparing-your-arrival-iringa)
Iringa, home to MUCE, has several budget-friendly accommodation options. Below is a list of these options and links where you can reserve your accommodation and visit for meals:
High-end options
Moderate options
There are also several other cheap places where, unfortunately, online reservations are not available. The local organizers can assist you in arranging accommodation at these places based on your budget.
Iringa is close to attractions such as the Ruaha National Park and the Isimila Old Stone Age and Natural Pillars site. Other interesting historical and cultural sites include the Mkwawa Museum in Kalenga and the Boma museum in the city center. We are planned to organize a visit to Ruaha National parks, but for participants who wish to stay in Iringa longer than the three days of the workshop and a visit to Ruaha National Park, we will venture the possibility of organizing joint excursions to some of these attractions during the conference.
