Eclectic embraces the variety of art that UWG students have to offer in the areas of Literary, Visual, Music, and Film, making it truly eclectic. All Eclectic submissions will be sent to the UWG email: eclectic@westga.edu
Required for All Submissions:
All submissions should include the following:
Your name (first and last) in the document and the file name (e.g., sam_garcia_submission.docx),
A title ("untitled" is an okay submission title), and
A short biography (100 words max written in 3rd person) about yourself.
Email subject lines containing submissions should be professional and include the your name and the broad category of your submission (e.g. Literary submission(s): Sam Garcia). If you are submitting to multiple categories, include all submissions within one email (e.g. Literary and Visual Submissions: Sam Garcia).
Unique Requirements for Different Categories of Submission:
Below are the requirements of each of the broad categories of Literary, Visual, Music, and Film:
Literary:
All literary submissions should be in a 12-point professional font (e.g., Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia). Multiple literary pieces should be submitted as individual files (either .DOC or .DOCX files), preferably submitted within the same email. You may submit up to to three literary pieces.
Additionally, keep in mind that while submitting a longer piece will not exempt you from publication, longer pieces will be reviewed more critically by our editing team due to Eclectic's limited page length.
Visual:
In order for your submission to stand out, visual work should be high quality. Visual submissions must be submitted as either .JPG, .PNG, or .PDF files. Otherwise, they will not be accepted. Additionally, visual submissions should be at least 300 dpi. You may submit up to three visual pieces. Visual work which is not originally digital (like a sculpture or painting) should be submitted as a high resolution scan or photograph from a high quality camera. A two-dimensional visual piece (like a painting, collage, or digital drawing) should fill the frame of its photo or scan. Three-dimensional pieces (like sculptures) should be photographed in good lighting. Visual works should be submitted as separate files, preferably all within the same email.
For more information on creating high quality visual submissions, please check the resources page.
Music:
Submissions in the Music category may include original music pieces (published on YouTube) or music reviews. You may submit up to two pieces in the Music Category. Multiple pieces should be submitted as separate files, preferably all submitted within the same email.
Music Pieces
A music piece submission has two main parts: (1) the YouTube-published piece, as expressed through a URL; and (2) a Retrospective written component. To submit a music piece, create a Word document (as either .DOC or .DOCX files), using a 12-point professional font (e.g., Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia). Within the Word document, include the following:
Your name;
The name of your YouTube account;
The URL of the music piece published on YouTube;
The name of your piece.
A well-written retrospective (between 300 and 1000 words).
The retrospective should focus less on the line-by-line meaning of the music and more on the feeling of creating it. For example, you could describe where you were when you first got the idea or the inspiration behind the music--anything you feel is relevant to your submission's meaning and purpose. Treat this submission like a creative piece; one where you show your journey through the music creation process.
Music Reviews
To submit a music review, create a Word document (as either .DOC or .DOCX files), using a 12-point professional font (e.g., Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia). Within the Word document, include the following:
Your Name;
The title of your review; and
Your music review (up to 1500 words).
Film:
Submissions in the Film category may include movie reviews or original films and animated shorts (published on youtube). You may submit up to two film pieces. Multiple pieces should be submitted as separate files, preferably submitted all within the same email.
