HSK Dragon is an app for practicing the HSK Chinese proficiency exam. It is made by Thomas Franck, an independent developer in Belgium ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and how you can delete it.

What we collect
An account. When you first open the app, it creates an anonymous account on our server so your progress can be saved and your answers graded. It is identified by a random ID, not by your name.
If you sign in with Google: your email address, your Google account ID and your name, so you can use the same progress on another phone.
Your settings: the HSK level you study, your exam date and your native language, if you set them.
Your learning progress: which questions you answered and how, your practice and mock exam results (including characters you write by hand in an exam), the words and characters you are learning, your study time and your daily streak.
Your speaking recordings, when you record an answer in a speaking exercise or exam. The microphone is only used while you are recording an answer.
Your written answers, when you submit a writing exercise for grading.
Feedback you send us: ratings of questions and reports of mistakes in the content.
Purchases: if you subscribe to Premium, Google Play tells us your subscription status. Google handles the payment; we never see your card or bank details.
We do not collect your location, your contacts or your photos. The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking.
Why we use it
• To save your progress and keep it in step between your phones.
• To grade your speaking and writing with AI and show you the result.
• To give Premium to subscribers and keep free use within the free plan's daily limits.
• To fix mistakes in the questions you report.
We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the services needed to run the app:
• Microsoft Azure Speech turns your speaking recordings into text and scores your pronunciation.
• DeepSeek grades your speaking and writing answers. If it is unavailable, Zhipu AI (GLM) grades them instead. Both are AI providers based in China, so these answers are processed outside the European Union.
• Google provides sign-in and processes Premium payments through Google Play.
These services receive only what they need for that task: a recording or a transcript, your written answer and the question it answers. They do not receive your name or email address.
Where it is stored and for how long
Your account and progress are stored on our server in Belgium. They are also kept on your phone. We keep your data, including your recordings so you can play your answers back, until you delete it. Subscription records may be kept longer where the law requires it.
Deleting your data
In the app: open Settings and tap "Delete my data". This permanently deletes your account from our server: your progress, your answers, your recordings and your sign-in. You choose whether the progress stored on your phone is erased too. If you keep it and go on using the app, it is saved again on our server under a new anonymous account.
Without the app: email mockdragon.app@gmail.com from the Google account you signed in with and ask us to delete your account. We do so within 30 days. An account that never signed in with Google can only be identified from the app, so delete it there.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it, by emailing us. If you live in the EU or UK you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
HSK Dragon is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top and say so in the app.
