About Us
Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Company is located in Conyngham Township which is located within two-hour accessibility to the metropolitan cities of New York and Philadelphia; we are located in the western corner of Luzerne County. The company is all-volunteer and has 20 active members. Our Fire Company is celebrating over 100 years of volunteer service to the community . Our organization was incorporated in 1923 and serves the residents of Conyngham Township. Mocanaqua is an old coal mining ‘patch-town’ formed by the West End Coal Company on the banks of the Susquehanna River; our township is one of the young and small townships in the way of population with a first due area of 32 square miles. Over the past couple years the M.V.F.C was a key asset providing initial response along with mutual aid support during the response and recovery phases of Hurricanes Irene & Sandy along with tropical storm Lee which has devastated our community. Today the Township is the home of several parks, recreational areas including the 3,053 acres of the Lackawanna State Forest, the Mocanaqua Loop trail which the trail consists of four interconnecting looping trails that take hikers to low-lying areas, ridge top overlooks, former coal mined areas, and natural wooded areas. The four loops combined, encompass about 15 miles this area is heavily used by 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, and rock climbers throughout the year. The M.V.F.C is dispatched through the Luzerne County 911 center and operates Two Engine Company’s , One Wildland/Brush Fire Unit and One All Terrain Offroad Unit out of one Station that is located in the heart of the Town along the Main St. Incorporated in 1923 the Company has been providing Emergency Services to not only the Town of Mocanaqua, Shickshinny Borough and parts of Union Twp., but also responding mutual aid/automatic aid to the nearby communities.
