Without the web and mobile technologies, traditional workplace collaboration takes place through face-to-face interactions, such as group discussions, team-based activities and training workshops, which require physical presence and coordination, both flexibility and accessibility are limited.
With the advent of web technologies, new forms of collaboration emerged, which was primarily through emails, bulletin boards. However, it is still limited to asynchronous communication, and individual contributions rather than group interactions (Lee & Bonk, 2014)
