What is tagging someone on Facebook for?

When you tag someone on Facebook, you create a link to their profile. The post you tag the person in may also be added to that person’s timeline. For example, you can tag a photo to show who’s in the photo or post a status update and say who you’re with. If you tag a friend in your status update, anyone who sees that update can click on your friend’s name and go to their profile. Your status update may also show up on that friend’s timeline.

When you tag someone, they’ll be notified. Also, if you or a friend tags someone in your post, the post could be visible to the audience you selected plus friends of the tagged person.

How to tag someone on Facebook on a post

Step 1. Start by tapping the box that says ‘What’s on your mind?’ Here you can type a status update, add photos or videos, check in,etc.

Step 2. Once you’ve created your post by adding status, photo, etc., you’re ready to tag. Click the little blue silhouette to open more options.

Step 3. Select “Tag people.”

Step 4. You need to type the name of the friends you’d like to tag in your post. Once they have auto-populated in the drop-down menu, click their name to add them to the post. Tap ‘Done’ once you’ve added everyone you’d like to tag.

Step 5. When you finish, click Share to public your post.

How to tag someone on Facebook on a photo

On mobile

Step 1. Open the photo you want to tag your friends. Then click the tag icon at the right corner.

Step 2. Click on the face of the person that you want to tag.

Type the name of the friend you want to tag and when their name has appeared in the drop-down menu, click it.

Step 3. If you’ve tagged them correctly, their name should appear both on the photo.

On desktop

Step 1. Open the photo you want to tag someone in and select ‘Tag Photo’ on the right side of the page.

Step 2. Click on the face of the person that you want to tag, then there will be a box on the friend signaling who you’ll be tagging.

Type the name of the friend you want to tag and when their name appears in the drop-down menu, click it.

Step 3. If you’ve tagged them correctly, their name should appear both on the photo and next to your name on the right hand side.

Once you’ve tagged everyone you want to tag, click ‘Done Tagging.’ You’ve successfully tagged your friends in a photo!
