Let's send a message to Minnesota residents, State Legislators and Members of Congress:
CLEAN energy is AFFORDABLE, RELIABLE, and SAFE!
Minnesotans want clean energy without delay!
We all want energy that is affordable, reliable, and safe. Some Minnesota residents and political leaders are concerned that a timely transition away from fossil fuels could lead to power outages and high energy costs. We want to correct this misunderstanding and make it clear that we can transition to clean energy without sacrificing reliability, safety and affordability. Specific goals:
Send a message to Minnesota residents, State Legislators, and Members of Congress that clean energy is affordable, reliable and safe
Build community awareness about the need to transition away from fossil fuels as quickly as possible
Raise awareness of the Citizens' Climate Lobby and attract new volunteers from rural areas
Get LTEs published in the two largest newspapers per U.S. congressional district and at least two smaller newspapers
Our updated target date is to complete the project in time for the CCL 2024 Summer Conference and Lobby Day, June 8-11 in Washington, DC.
Decide on a newspaper for your LTE. The Minnesota Newspapers Directory is a great resource. You can use it to browse newspapers by city or search newspapers by county to find papers in your area. The newspaper can be a print publication, a newspaper that has both print and online editions, or an online-only newspaper. See list of larger newspapers by congressional district.
Write your letter. See CARS LTE Examples for topic ideas, suggestions for effective LTEs, and examples of published LTEs. Pay attention to editor guidelines for LTEs (deadlines, maximum words, residency guidelines). Highlight at least one of the three issues (affordability, reliability, safety) and explain how clean energy delivers. See Clean Energy is Affordable, Reliable, and Safe on the LTE Resources page for ideas and background.
👉WANT A QUICK AND EASY TOPIC? Write about any of the following and mention clean energy: BIG WIRES, EICDA, PROVE IT Act, IRA tax credits.
Submit your letter. You can submit to more than one newspaper at once.
Check to see if your letter is published. If you are not a subscriber, you can check the paper at the local library or call the newspaper to check on the status of your letter. An easy way to keep track of publication is to set up a google alert for yourself.
When you are published--HURRAH! Please send an email to Pat Fettes pafettes@gmail.com with the following information:
Name of Publication
Date of the edition in which your letter appeared
The complete text of your letter (can include as attachment)
A link to the online version of your letter if available
Record your LTE in the Action Tracker on the CCL Community website.
