MN Engineering byDesign announces a 2021 Summer Training program!

Set the date: July 27 and 28, 2021

Time: 8:30 to 3:30 each day

Registration link: Engineering byDesign Virtual Cohort

Cost: $800 per participant. Includes access to the BUZZ LMS for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years.

CEU Certificates will be given out after the 2 day training and again in May 2022.

College Credit: College Credit is available from Saint Cloud State University. Cost is not included in the training fee. Fee is $500 for 3 graduate credits. Credits will be awarded following completion of the two day Virtual training in July.

MN Engineering byDesign in cooperation with Sourcewell, a MN Service cooperative serving Central Minnesota, will be conducting Cohort training sessions starting this summer. The initial session will be a 2 day “Virtual” training July 27 and 28. This will be followed by monthly cohort meetings over the course of the 2021-22 school year.

Traditionally an Engineering byDesign Summer Academy would be a four day, in person intensive workshop.

The “Cohort” concept will allow for teachers to continually learn about the program and communicate with peers as they integrate the program in their first year.

There will be sessions for K-2, 3-6, Middle School (Gr. 6-8) and High School.

Elementary teachers will be trained on their grade level TEEMS Coursework. Course Descriptions HERE!

MS teachers will have the opportunity to train on all three MS courses. Additional work will be required to complete more than one course. Course Descriptions HERE!

HS Teachers will have the opportunity to complete training for either the Foundations of Technology or Engineering Design Courses. These two are the “Beginning and Endpoint” of the HS EbD program. Teachers can train in both , however, there will be additional work involved to complete the training. Course Descriptions HERE!

Course descriptions can be found below:

Pre K -6 Engineering byDesign TEEMS

The ITEEA STEM Center for Teaching and Learning preK-6 elementary STEM curriculum unit sequence is delivered through a hands-on Technology, Engineering, Environment, Mathematics, and Science (TEEMS) thematic interdisciplinary approach using engaging, Integrative STEM Education lessons.

Middle School (6-8) Engineering byDesign

The grade 6-8 EbD curriculum materials are designed to be 18-week courses. Exploring Technology (Grade 6), Invention and Innovation (grade 7) and Technological systems are the courses at the Middle school level. Each course is designed around the 6E (ENGAGE, EXPLORE, EXPLAIN, eNGINEER, ENRICH and EVALUATE). Each unit in the coursework includes project-based learning to provide a hands on – minds learning.

High School (9-12) Engineering byDesign

The Virtual Cohort will be on the “Foundations of Technology” and “Engineering Design” courses.

The High School coursework starts with Foundations of Technology has the choice of 4 courses: Technology and Society, Technological Design, Advanced design applications and Advanced Technological Applications. There is a capstone course, Engineering Design. This coursework is Project Based, Flexible to meet the capabilities of a school’s facilities and can be based on current equipment in the school. The lesson projects are such that they can be adapted to the tools and equipment available to the teacher and students with easily accessible consumable supplies. While designed to be full year courses, curriculum may be modified to shorter length classes if necessary.
