Edible landscaping is the use of incorporating food plants as a design approach in doing a landscape.
Background of the Project
Edible landscaping is the use of incorporating food plants as a design approach in doing a landscape. These food plants oftentimes are also planted alongside non-edible plants for aesthetic value and for consumption.
The Edible Landscaping Project of the MMSU-Research Directorate showcases not only food plants but correspondingly a diverse kind of plants including herbals, medicinals, and spices. Existing plants inside the garden marries the aforementioned plants to name a few: lemon grass, herba maria, pechay, oregano, tsaang gubat, eggplant, kutsay, dill, bugnay, and so many more. Each of the plants were likewise identified. A comprehensive information about the plants were also discussed. Further, the health/medicinal value of the plants were known.
Fruit trees also adorn the Edible Landscaping Project such as mango tree, duhat/lumboy tree, and palm fruit. So the garden is a fusion of different varieties of herbals, medicinals, and fruit trees. Aside from having beautiful orchard to showcase at the Research Directorate, the garden could also be a platform in doing researches alongside nedicinals and health in general.
