If you drive, you will figure it out using google maps. If you fly, use Des Moines International Airpot (DSM). Transport between DSM and Ames is provided by https://www.executiveexpress.biz/. It seems that Uber has a competitive price too but it has not been tested. It might be cost and time effective to rent a car at the airport. If you have a private plane, you may fly directly to Ames Municipal Airport (AMW) - but we do not reimburse such travel.
If we booked accommodation for you, it is at Sleep Inn in Ames for Friday night and Saturday night. There is a public bus Cyride between the hotel and the department, line 1 RED. If you have a car, parking on campus is free during the weekend. For a map of parking lots, see https://www.fpm.iastate.edu/maps/ and check the parking lots in the left menu. Or just click here for the map around Carver Hall. If we are not booking accommodation for you, Sleep Inn or Hilton Garden Inn Ames are close to where the other participants might be staying.
If you (a gradaute student) requested support, we will book the hotel for you.
If you pay for the hotel yourself, we have a block of rooms reserved at Sleep Inn at rate $159/night. Use https://www.choicehotels.com/reservations/groups/WX77Q0 to book. Cut off date is Aug 26.
The conference will happen in Carver Hall, the building with the math department. The main room will be Carver 205. There will be some refreshments ready in the morning (such as donuts, coffee,...) and main talks. We plan for one coffee break in the morning and one in the afternoon. On Sunday, we will have morning food and one morning coffee break.
Parking is free nearly anywhere on campus on Saturday and Sunday. See campus map Try lot 18, 65, or 5. Or anything that looks close to Carver Hall, which is the 2nd building north from lake LaVerne.
Sleep Inn (the hotel) is located right next to Perfect Games. Great for bowling, laser tag, arcade and pizza party.
For only food with no games, West Towne Pub could do. Walking distance (across a parking lot).
For some blue grass music (No Mountain Boys, excluding Kyle Murphy) and beer, drive to Alluvial Brewing.
Ames Theater is playing Steel Magnolias on Sep 9 and Sep 10 starting 7:30pm.
ISU is part of Eduroam. Visitors can aslo connect to ISU network and create a guest account that is valid for three days.
