Lab Rules

General Use Guidelines

1. All users must first be registered as Approved Users with current lab responsible.

2. Before the synthesis relevant Risk Assessment should be uploaded to Drive and logging computer.

3. All users must log their activity using digital logbook

4. All users must always clean the workspace after themselves. The counter tops should remain clear at the end of each day.

5. All users are responsible for their own waste.

6. All users must participate in cleaning sessions of the lab upon lab responsible request.

Safety Guidelines

1. Always wear closed-toed shoes, lab coat and appropriate eyewear in the laboratory.

2. All chemicals must be handled in a safe manner according to MSDS.

3. Be aware of the location of the Safety shower, Fire extinguisher and Eyewash stations.

4. MMK requires that if you are working in the lab after hours (20:00-7:00) or on weekends you must either have permission from your advisor or you must have someone else present in the same room.


Failure to comply with guidelines will result in the user's suspension of use of the laboratory C269

Fire

  1. If you find a fire burning inside, get the fire extinguisher, located by the doors of C269, put out the fire and leave the room until the air is sufficiently cleared.

  2. If you are unable to put out the fire evacuate.

  3. In case of immediate danger call 112.

Always notify current lad responsible about any accidents. Don't forget to fill in SAMIR report after the accident.

Common Melting Points

  1. Polypropylene - 160 °C - the flash point is 260 °C

  2. Aluminum - 660 °C

  3. Pyrex - 820 °C - this is the softening point and it depends on exact recipe

  4. Quartz - 1670 °C
