MD MOINUL ISLAM KHAN is a passionate researcher with an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from McGill University, Canada. He began his academic journey at McGill in the Electrical Engineering department in Fall 2022. Recognized for his exceptional abilities and unwavering commitment, he was awarded the prestigious McGill Engineering Doctoral Award (MEDA) and Grad Excellence Awards. With a keen focus on advancing mid-infrared (MIR) optical systems, Moinul is exploring the development of optical fiber-based components compatible with the MIR regime. His research has already made significant strides, including the demonstration of polarization conversion in soft glass fibers, a crucial step toward the development of all-fiber MIR systems.
Prior to his academic pursuits in Canada, Moinul served as a Lecturer at Sonargaon University and also gained valuable experience as a part-time lecturer at Daffodil International University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Engineering with First Class with Honors from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh, in March 2021. His undergraduate thesis, titled "Surface Plasmon Resonance-based Photonic Crystal Fiber Sensor Designing," showcased his expertise in topics such as Surface Plasmon Resonance, Optical Fibers, Photonic Crystal Fiber, and Biosensors. During his undergraduate studies, Moinul distinguished himself as a prolific researcher. Under the guidance of Professor Dr. Mohammad Rakibul Islam, his supervisor, he published ten international journal articles, showcasing his dedication to expanding the frontiers of knowledge and contributing to the scientific community.
Moinul's academic journey at the Islamic University of Technology also witnessed his active involvement in various projects. Notable among them are "Voice Controlled Calculator for Visually Impaired using MATLAB," "Automatic Power Factor Improvement System using Arduino module," "8051 Microcontroller-based Calculator," "4-bit ALU (arithmetic logic unit) using basic logic gates," and "Restaurant Billing System using MATLAB GUI." These projects underscore his proficiency in practical implementation and his ability to develop innovative solutions.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Moinul has demonstrated a fervent commitment to extracurricular activities. As the General Secretary of the IEEE IUT Student Branch in his senior year, he exhibited excellent leadership skills and played an integral role in organizing and coordinating various initiatives. Additionally, he actively contributed to the annual tech festival, ESONANCE, organized by the EEE department of IUT. His exemplary performance and organizational prowess in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 events led to his appointment as the vice president of the Organizing Committee of ESONANCE 2020.
Moinul completed his Higher Secondary Education at Notre Dame College (NDC), Bangladesh. As a dedicated member of the Notre Dame Science Club, he actively participated and volunteered in numerous Olympiads and Science Festivals, representing the college. During his tenure as the General Secretary of the Notre Dame Science Club, he organized workshops, seminars, Olympiads, and Science Festivals, showcasing his ability to drive initiatives and foster a passion for science among his peers. His contributions earned him recognition, including the prestigious "Science Club Man of the Year (2015-16)" award and a "Life-Time Membership" to the club. He also received Government Scholarships for his outstanding performance in SSC and JSC examinations.
