What's that? Here's a video to help you learn exactly what a Learning object is and then you can continue reading below to follow along as I explore a new tool to help create Learning Objects to help facilitate learning activities in my future classrooms.
Available as both a website and an app on any mobile device, Quizlet makes it possible to learn anything! In particular, I love to use Quizlet in French class, where, like with Kahoot!, there is always a place for grammar or vocabulary review.
We don't need written grammar tests anymore. Yes, we need to teach grammar, but it needs to be embedded into our lessons. It needs to serve a purpose. Good grammar serves us to communicate, but little errors aren't detrimental to conveying a message. Our students have to learn, but we aren't the grammar police!
And this is when Quizlet comes to help us! You can search thousands of already made resources, create your own or have your students create their own study-sets, flashcards, games and more. Students can study alone or collaborate with their classmates in fun game-like situations. It can be great to engage students in interactive formats in all subject areas and topics, especially when they have to learn topics that can otherwise be seen as dry and boring.
Quizlet might not inspire deep learning, but it is a good tool for rapid-fire review or rote memorization if that is helpful to the way a particular students likes or needs to learn.
