Melusine from the beginning of her life had a hard time trusting others. Growing up without a father, she longed for days of going to the beach or watching baseball on TV just like her friends had done with their dads. Anytime her or her sisters were to bring it up to their mother they would be shut down by her and they would be sent to their rooms. For Melusine's 13th birthday, she asked for an iPhone to connect with her family and friends. After weeks of begging her mom, when her birthday came she got one and was so happy because she knew this was one step closer to finding her father.
She searched her last name on Facebook, Google, and Instagram to find any details about who and where her father might be. After hours of scrolling, she thought she should just give up. However, on her bus ride home from school she looked out the window to see an advertisement for a lawyer. She quickly picked up her iPhone and jotted down the name and phone number.
The phone rang a few times and then a man with a very bubbly voice answered and said, "Saul Goodman here! Attorney at Law bringing speedy justice for you!" Melusine a little intimidated and scared said, "Hello. My name is Melusine and I am 13 years old. I'm looking to find my dad who I have never met before and don't know his name. Will you please help me find him?" Saul was utterly shocked that he was on the phone with a 13-year old however he too grew up without a dad and felt sympathetic for her desires to finally find him. Saul replied and said, "Hi Melusine I, unfortunately, am not a private investigator, however, I have a friend who is and would be more than happy to help you!" Saul gave Melusine a number to Mike Ehrmantraut and wished her the best of luck.
She immediately called Mike and set up a time to discuss more. That Thursday instead of going to school she took the bus to New Mexico where she met Mike at Los Pollos Hermanos. She told him that she really had nothing and even pulled out her birth certificate and pointed out where her father's name had never been written. He took some notes and said that he would be in touch soon.
When Melusine returned home that night she opened the door to her mom infuriated with rage and anger. "What betrayal!" said her mother, "You tricked me into getting your phone and skipped school to find your father after I told you not to go looking for him. You will be greatly punished and see why you will never find him." Her mother's eyes turned dark red as she started chanting. Melusine was lifted from the ground and began to turn. She reached for her Gravity Blanket, but even that could not hold her down. Her mom still continuing to chant as the space around them grew darker and darker grabbed Melusine and everything became dark.
When she woke up she was in her bed in her room tucked under the covers as nothing had ever happened. She walked down the stairs and saw her mother in the kitchen making a matcha latte with oat milk. She sat down at the kitchen table and explained to her why she has and will never meet her father. "I fell in love with your father very quickly. I agreed to be married to him only under one condition if he were to leave and never see me on Saturday night. He agreed, however as years went by he became more and more curious as to what I was doing. Eventually, he betrayed my trust and saw that I transformed into a mermaid on Saturday night. I caught him in this act and swore him off to be locked into a castle never to be seen again. Since you betrayed me as well I too have turned you into a mermaid and every Saturday night when the sun comes down you too will be a mermaid and see what I have to go through to keep this magic a secret."

Author's note: This is a spin-off of the original story of Melusine's early life and her parents. I touched on this subject a little bit in my introduction but decided it deserved a greater more interesting story because her history is so important. The original story is that her mother was a fairy and her dad was a King. The King broke his promise, however, the mother left with her three kids and moved to an island where Melusine and her sisters would grow up there together. However, the girls were fifteen when they asked their mother about the story of their father and she told them what had happened. The daughters sought revenge and locked their father in a castle and their mother found out and punished them because of that. I made it more modern by using current technology and the TV show Better Call Saul. I decided to make the mother the villain in a way because I thought it was more interesting and would tie better to Melusine’s love story (soon to come in my next story) as it is extremely similar to her mother and father’s love story. I chose to not include her sisters as much is this story as I wanted the main focus to be on Melusine and Melusine only.
