Giovanni Scafora is maintaining packages for libEBML, libMatroska and MKVToolNix in Arch's [extra] repository. You can install MKVToolNix with the simple command pacman -S mkvtoolnix-cli mkvtoolnix-gui

If you're using the Chocolatey package manager, you can also install or upgrade MKVToolNix with Chocolatey by running choco install mkvtoolnix respectively choco upgrade mkvtoolnix from the PowerShell. They're usually pretty quick to update.

Frdric Boulet is maintaining packages for libEBML, libMatroska and MKVToolNix in Zenwalk's [extra] repository. You can install MKVToolNix with the simple command netpkg mkvtoolnix or with the graphical utility xnetpkg.

In the "format specific options," the character encoding was set to "default" and I think this was the issue, because mkvtoolnix cannot detect UTF-8-encoded files apparently, and you need to specifically select UTF-8.

Now, the problem is that I deleted the original subtitles and the ones from the new MKV file have some weird encoding. I'd like to extract and recode them again to UTF-8, but I don't know what is the real encoding that was set by mkvtoolnix. Does anyone know how could I find out?

I remember that there was a warning about it being replaced by MKVToolNix (for the GUI that'd be mmg if I'm not mistaken) but that's not available either. mkvtoolnix-gtk is installed but the mmg command is not present, there's no binary like this and pkgfile mmg returns with no result.

Obviously I searched for mkvmerge, too, but only the mkvmerge itself is present, no mkvmerge-gui or mkvmerge-gtk, there's no graphical app at all.

Yes, it's necessary. And if you read the log entry you inserted properly, you'll find that there's a Qt based GUI and it's built by default.

Just read the changelog further. Only the Arch package doesn't have it for some reason.

Of course, mkvtoolnix-gtk shouldn't include a Qt app, but there's no reason not to create e.g. an mkvtoolnix-gui package.

...Currently I'm building mkvtoolnix-git from AUR. God, it takes forever! I'll hope that the GUI package will eventually show up. There's nothing wrong upstream, the Arch package maintainers should be contacted and asked about this but I don't know how.

and mkvtoolnix launch without issue, in latest version 63. I do not know what i did wrong that it was corrupted, maybe manjaro can prevent or be more informative to the noob user like me - seems like i was running two versions at once and some outdated was silently preferred. 0852c4b9a8
