Check out the 2025-2026 Weekly Gathering Schedule!
Milwaukee Homeschoolers is a group for homeschooling and unschooling families in Milwaukee and the surrounding areas. Our goal is to build community by connecting with others (both children and adults!) and to explore our environment through relaxed free play and adventuring.
This group is an inclusive, intersectional space where we recognize the inherent worth of all human life. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, neuroablism and any other type of hate or discrimination is not tolerated.
Milwaukee Homeschoolers was founded in 2019 for families interested in a supportive, intersectional space to gather and build community with fellow families living in Milwaukee County. As the group has grown, our membership has expanded to families from all over the metro area and beyond, but our roots in inclusivity, urban exploration and strong relationships remain the focus.
Our events are intended for children of all ages, so even if they’re not technically homeschool age yet, we welcome you to come out and get to know the group! Virtual schoolers, families considering homeschooling, and anyone else interested in joining our community are welcome. Many of our families have a range of ages of children, so it is nearly always appropriate to bring older or younger children to events. Partners and grandparents are also welcome!
Some events are smaller with just a few families attending, and some of our larger events host 50-90 people.
We are based in the city of Milwaukee and our events center in the city and county of Milwaukee, but members from all over the metro area are welcome to join. We enjoy exploring all the diverse opportunities the metro area offers us, including urban activities in the city, and visits to neighboring suburban counties.
Many of our events are planned and hosted by our group members, exclusively for our group. We also attend homeschool-specific and open community events run by other organizations.
Our group offers events at a variety of dates and times that are convenient no matter what your schedule. We have one regular daytime meetup each week. In addition, we host a variety of events scattered across mornings, afternoons, and evenings on every day of the week including weekends.
Some families attend events multiple times per week, every week. Others attend events weekly, a few times per month, or every few months.
Events
We gather weekly on Tuesdays from 10am-3pm. From November through April, we meet indoors with each week following a different activity or theme. May through October we meet outdoors.
We offer a balance of academic opportunities like classes through the MSOE STEM Center, Tosa STEAM Academy and area libraries; exploration such as visiting local museums, attending performances in theater, dance, music, opera, ballet; nature activities such as visiting the Urban Ecology Center branches, nature centers and preserves, hiking, swimming, walking and biking; and social activities like visiting parks, pools and splash pads, amusement parks, festivals, parades, sporting events, playing soccer, ultimate frisbee and capture the flag, playing board games and lots more.
We also take day trips and overnight trips each year, including our annual camping trip, and trips to waterparks. We’ve traveled to Chicago, Sheboygan, Green Bay, Madison, Indiana, and Kenosha.
