Mustafa Karaman was born in 1987 in Rize, Türkiye. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2010. Subsequently, he pursued his postgraduate studies at İzmir Institute of Technology, where he earned a Master of Science degree (2010–2014) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (2014–2022) in Geotechnical Engineering. Dr. Karaman began his professional career as a scholar in TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) research projects between 2010 and 2012. From 2012 to 2020, he served as a Research Assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering at İzmir Institute of Technology, contributing to numerous research projects as both a researcher and technical personnel. In 2018, he was awarded a TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) scholarship to undertake a Visiting Researcher position at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. Between 2020 and 2023, Dr. Karaman worked as a freelance civil engineer in the private sector, providing consultancy and project services in the field of geotechnical engineering. He worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of L'Aquila, Italy, during 2024-2025. In 2025, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Earth and Space Sciences, Eskişehir Technical University. Dr. Karaman's research interests include soil mechanics, soil dynamics, geotechnical earthquake engineering, field testing and site characterization, soil liquefaction, ground improvement techniques, deep foundations, and soil-structure interaction.
