Renzo Piano est né le 14 septembre 1937 à Gênes, en Italie. Il est né dans une famille d'architecte, il suit son père sur ses chantiers. Il obtient son diplôme d'architecte en 1964, au sein de la prestigieuse Ecole Polytechnique.
Il fait ses débuts avec le célèbre architecte français, Jean Prouvé, qui deviendra son mentor. Il fonde son propre cabinet en 1970 et s'associe avec Richard Rogers puis à Peter Rice, le cabinet se nomme Piano and Rogers.
Il remporte le concours qui lui permet de dessiner l'architecture du Musée Pompidou à Paris. Par la suite il créé ses ateliers appelés Building Workshop, dans la ville de Paris, Gênes et New York. En 1990 il reçut le prix Kyoto. Renzo Piano est connu pour ses nombreuses œuvres majeures dans le design de musées.
Renzo Piano was born on September 14, 1937, in Genoa (IT) in a family of architects. After following his father on building sites when he was young, he obtained his degree in architecture in 1964 from the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique.
He started working with the well-known architect Jean Prouvé, who became his mentor.
In 1970, Piano joined forces with Richard Rogers and Peter Rice and founded his own firm Piano and Rogers.
He then won the competition that led him to design the Pompidou Museum in Paris. Afterwards, he created his workshops called Building Workshop in Paris, Genoa and New York. In 1990, he received the Kyoto Prize. Renzo Piano is mostly known for his major works in museum designs.
