Bjarke Ingels est né le 2 Octobre 1974 à Copenhague, au Danemark. Passionné et doué en dessin, il se lance dans des études d'architecture en 1993, à l'Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts du Danemark. Puis il quitte son pays natal pour rejoindre l'Espagne et poursuivre ses études à l'Escola Tècnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB), durant ses années en Espagne il remporte son premier concours de design. Sa carrière professionnel débute durant ses études avec la fondation de son premier bureau d'architecture, à l'occasion de son Erasmus à l'ETSAB. En 1998, Bjarke Ingels rentre à Copenhague pour réaliser sa dernière année d'étude, il obtiendra son diplôme d'architecture en 1999.
Jusqu'en 2001, il travailla pour l'Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), le bureau de l'architecte néerlandais Rem Koolhaas à Rotterdam. Par la suite il créé son entreprise, PLOT, aux côtés de Julien De Smedt, à Copenhague, en janvier 2001. Ils travaillèrent ensemble pendant 5 années, durant lesquelles ils remportent en 2004 le Lion d'Or à la Biennale de Venise pour les plans proposés d'une nouvelle maison de la musique en Norvège. Leur collaboration s'arrête peut après la réalisation du célèbre projet VM Houses. Lorsque PLOT fut dissous en janvier 2006, Bjarke Ingels créé sa propre firme, le Bjarke Ingels Group, plus connu sous le nom BIG. En 2008, il réalise The Mountain, la deuxième génération de VM, un bâtiment possédant la silhouette d'une montagne, une des raisons pour laquelle on aperçoit une photographie de l'Everest sur le côté délimitant le parking des habitations.
Sa vaste imagination lui permet de réaliser de somptueux projets comme the LEGO House (Copenhague), Via 57 West (Manhattan), The Plus (Manor, Norvège), Google Bay View (Mountain View), Vancouver House (Vancouver).Bjarke Ingels réalise également des conférences pour TED où il présente ses projets architecturaux ou bien ses livres. Durant sa carrière, l'architecte Danois a remporté le prix Nykredit en 2002, le Lion d'Or en 2004 et le Prix européen de l'architecture en 2010.
Pour ma part, c'est mon architecte favori. Ses projets sont d'une créativité inouïe, et sa manière de percevoir l'architecture m'impressionne, c'est ma source d'inspiration.
Bjarke Ingels was born on 2 October 1974 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Passionate and gifted in drawing, he started studying architecture in 1993 at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He then left his native country for Spain to continue his studies at the Escola Tècnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB), during his years in Spain he won his first design competition. His professional career began during his studies with the foundation of his first architectural office, during his Erasmus at ETSAB. In 1998, Bjarke Ingels returned to Copenhagen for his final year of study, graduating with a degree in architecture in 1999.
Until 2001 he worked for the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), the Rotterdam office of the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. He then set up his own company, PLOT, together with Julien De Smedt, in Copenhagen in January 2001. They worked together for five years, during which time they won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2004 for their proposed plans for a new music house in Norway. Their collaboration came to an end after the completion of the famous VM Houses project. When PLOT was dissolved in January 2006, Bjarke Ingels set up his firm, the Bjarke Ingels Group, better known as BIG. In 2008, he designed The Mountain, the second generation of VM, a building with the silhouette of a mountain, one of the reasons why a photograph of Mount Everest can be seen on the side of the car park.
Bjarke Ingels' vast imagination has led him to create sumptuous projects such as the LEGO House (Copenhagen), Via 57 West (Manhattan), The Plus (Manor, Norway), Google Bay View (Mountain View), Vancouver House (Vancouver), and he has also given lectures for TED on his architectural projects and books. During his career, the Danish architect won the Nykredit Prize in 2002, the Golden Lion in 2004 and the European Architecture Prize in 2010.
His projects are incredibly creative, and his way of perceiving architecture impresses me, it is my source of inspiration.
