We believe that everyone should have a place to share their work. However, because we physically can't accept everyone, please follow our submission guidelines. Failure to follow all guidelines may result in your submission being ignored entirely. Feel free to reach out to staff if the submission page is not working properly for you.
All work submitted 100% belongs to the authors, however, if authors choose to publish or otherwise release their work after it has been published by the Mixed Bag, we humbly ask that the authors notate that their work was first seen within our journal (we need all the shoutouts we can get).
General guidelines for all Submissions:
-We encourage any sort of visual aid to be submitted alongside the writing so long as it is appropriate.
-We're leaning more towards young adult writers.
-We will turn away any author that has traditional-published work (do you really need the boost?)
-Self-published authors are fine (we have one on staff)
-Work that is deemed racist, homophobic, transphobic, too "porn like", Family Guy levels of "offensive for no reason", or otherwise problematic will not be accepted (be reasonable).
-There should be evidence of some proofreading. If some edits are needed we will let make the writer aware of that (out of respect for the writers, we will not do the edits for them). Feedback from the Mixed Bag must be addressed within one week, otherwise the submission will be dropped (you can still submit to us after that, but we'll remember you).
For Prose Submissions:
-1000 words or less
-You may submit a section of a longer piece, we only ask that you notate it as such.
-Only one person on staff likes Sci-Fi, so your submission may take longer to get through.
For Poetry Submissions:
-350 words or less
-If you wish to submit two pieces that combined to 350 words or less, you may.
For Review Submissions:
-700 Words or less
-Be fair and examine both the positive and negative elements to what you're reviewing
-Numbered ratings are not required
For Interview Submissions:
-1000 Words or less
-Please also submit a recording and/or transcript of the interview so we can verify it actually occurred.
