Our Aircraft "AKASHTORI"

Introduction

Akashtori has been designed and manufactured in response to the requirements of the Design Build Fly Competition '24. This year, we were tasked with designing an Urban Air Mobility Aircraft capable of fulfilling missions for Medical Transport and Passenger Transport, alongside demonstrating the aircraft's flight capabilities.

Main Body

The fuselage of Akashtori involves an aerodynamic design prepared by the Design Sub-team of Team NOVONIL which comprised of Lecturer Nahida Islam, Teaching Assistant B.M. Saif, Chief Designer Md. Ridwan Hassan and Sudipto Tushar. Tail Dragger gear has been utilized in the aircraft to facilitate rapid take-off within a distance of 20 ft as per the requirements of the competition. The structural strength of the fuselage has been ensured through the use of plywoods and carbon rods.

Folding Wing Mechanism

The main interest in our design was the folding mechanism to be used to fit it in a 2.5 ft width parking space. Our team spent a considerable amount of their time in deciding the configuration to be used for this purpose. Considering all possible factors, Lecturer Nafiz Redwan and Asif Hasnayeen designed the concept of the wing folding mechanism to incoporate in the aircraft.

The unique folding mechanism grabbed attention of many teams and officials during the Fly-Off in the Competition. Many teams manufactured many complex folding mechanisms which took much time in the Ground Mission. Our simple design took us less time to change the configuration from flight to parking configuration by means of folding the wing.
