Hello! My name is Sydney Southard, and I am so excited to be your student's teacher! I grew up in Plano, Texas with my parents, younger sister, and my two dogs Belle and Barkley. I love spending quality time with my friends and family, traveling, and working with kids!
I have known since I was three years old that being a teacher is what I am meant to do. This was evident to my parents when I would ask for office supplies for my birthday (for example; a laminator, overhead projector, and filing cabinet). Throughout my time in school I have always found myself drawn towards working with children and finding myself taking education vocational courses.
I graduated from the University of Oklahoma where I volunteered at a children's shelter, and observing classes in rural, urban and suburban communities. For my student teaching I was placed in a first grade classroom and fell in love! First grade is such an important year where you see so much growth in all of your students. Needless to say, I was over the moon when I got a job teaching first grade at a school like Hicks!
After graduation, I became a long-term substitute for Frisco ISD. Unfortunatley, COVID-19 hit and we went virtual. This time teaching virtually makes me feel very confident in the education your student will have during their time being virtual with me. I can't wait for the year to get started and to get to know your student! Let's work together as a team to make this year fun, stressfree, and full of learning for your student!
