Newsletter will be posted each month
Welcome to 4th Grade! I’m super excited to have you in my classroom this year. Let me begin by introducing some classroom expectations and policies.
Agenda: Agendas will go home every night and need to be brought back to school each day. Agendas are used to record classwork assignments, nightly/weekly reading, daily behavior, homework, and correspondence between home and school.
Data Binders: Each student will have a working binder that houses assignments, assessments, and data records. This will assist your child with organizational skills and give them the ability to be current with how they are doing academically. These will stay at school and you are always welcome to come and view your child’s portfolio at any point during the year.
Bear Checks: This will be our classroom money. It is used school wide and in the classroom. Students will earn paychecks, positive rewards for doing well in class, and doing nightly reading and homework!!
Nightly Reading: In order to have it approved, students need to write down the book title, read for a minimum of 1 hour a week, and have it signed by a guardian.
Homework: Homework will be noted in agendas. Please check and sign, especially to get credit for reading!
Math - This will be either a practice page, if students didn’t finish work in class or practicing math facts.
Reading - 15 minutes Monday-Thursday = Weekly goal of 1 hour
Classroom Expectations
Be Responsible: “Are you being a responsible fourth grader?” Your child will hear me say this phrase all year. This includes following expectations, staying on task, completing class assignments, etc. You name it; it probably fits under this category.
Be Respectful: This involves being respectful to classmates, teachers and staff, materials, and school property.
Be Safe: Students need to follow school routines and rules that help them be safe.
Behavior: It is expected that each of my students follow school and classroom rules. I really push students being motivated to learn for themselves and have fun with it. So being respectful and mindful of each other's learning environment is so important!
Electronics: There will be no phones, apple watches, etc. Anything that can connect to the internet will need to stay at home or in their backpack if necessary. Thank you for the support in this!
Birthdays: If you would like to send treats for your child’s birthday, please contact me ahead of time. The school’s policy suggests store bought treats.
Communication: Use the Arroyo Del Oso website for relevant information about our school-calendar. Use your student’s agendas for information about your child’s classroom. Agendas need to be checked and signed/initialed every night. These will communicate daily about homework and keep track of reading minutes.
Friday Folders include student work and information about upcoming events. Monthly newsletter will keep you informed of current subjects we are studying. Let us know how we can best support your student at school. We will count on you to support your student at home with homework.
Absences and Make-Up Work: In the event that your child misses school, please make sure to call in to avoid unexcused absences. Classwork assignments are posted in class, but it is your child’s responsibility to see me to get missed work and explanations. In the event that your child misses a class assessment, I will try to use class-time to make it up, but there may be times that recess would be used to make up tests.
