Early Childhood Education
Kirkwood Community College Class of 2025
My name is Nhilse-Pacheco Santiago, I am from Mexico and I am a last year ECE (Early Childhood Education) student at Kirkwood Community College. As a student of this career I have too many goals for my future in it. One of them is giving the students the tools every single thing on them need to be successful not only in their academic path, but also in their daily life, and teaching them that there is no impossible for no one.
My passion for this career started when I was 7 years old, then it became strongest once I turned 16 and decided to be a church teacher in Mexico where I helped kids and teens to find and build a faith lifestyle. After such an experience , I saw my future very clearly and then I decided to start this journey, but in a different country, the United States.
I can say, my interest about teaching is becoming from my bad experiences of my academic pathway. After being bullied for so many years by a teacher and classmates, getting jokes, abuse and emotional and psychological violence, I decided to be the teacher that I wanted, I needed, but unfortunately I never had.
Taking into account my bad experience as a student, I developed and improved some qualities that I think are the most important in this career.
Some of these qualities are my resilience to never give up, my respect for every single kid around me to give them the protection they need. My patience to teach them hard things, my honestly to give parents the trust to leave their kids in my classroom, but more than that, I am sure, my empathy has been playing a huge role to be a good fit in this career, because without it, could be so hard to share feelings and using them as a tool to grow up.
Now, I can say my goal is clear and strong and I am so happy to say I am going to reached it.
