What is FCCLA?
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, FCCLA, is a youth organization for young men and women enrolled in Family and Consumer Sciences. The objective of the organization is to promote personal growth, character development, career readiness, and leadership opportunities.
FCCLA offers programs, contests, scholarships, and opportunities for members to develop real world skills, become college- and career-ready, and make a difference in families, careers, and communities.
Through participation in Competitive Events, FCCLA members gain employable skills and industry insight needed to thrive in the 21st Century. Members may choose from 50+ Competitive Events which apply skills and knowledge gained through Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. Competitive Events set members up for career success as members explore Career Pathways and address important personal, work, and societal issues through competing on the region/district, state, and national level.
Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events are Competitive Events in which members compete at the region/district, state, and national level and are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events allow students to compete individually or as a team. There are more than 30 STAR Events students can choose to compete in, all which recognize participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to actively identify an issue concerning families, careers, or communities, research the topic, and develop and implement a project to advocate for positive change.
