My philosophy of education begins with the notion that the teacher and the student should establish a mutual respect and relationship with one-another. When a trusting and caring relationship is established, students feel confident and safe in their learning environment. By displaying compassion and kind-heartedness, students view you as a real human-being with feelings and emotions. Modeling positive adult behavior gives them a role model to emulate as they grow into adulthood. I also believe that in order for students to achieve the highest level of academic success, teachers must use constructive methods that promote hands on, active learning where students feel involved and responsible in their own intellectual discoveries. Classroom management theorist Jacob Kounin found that good organization and planning are key for effective classroom management while also getting students highly involved and emphasizing proactive behavior. As an educator, it will be my duty to encourage and nurture each one of my student’s individual talents and strengths. Every child acquires knowledge differently. I believe in differentiating material and using a variety of teaching methods to ensure my students receive the best possible education.
