February 7th, 2020
This week the first graders have been reading the story, "Let's Go to the Moon". To study the moon and the phases of the moon, we completed an activity using Oreos to demonstrate the appearance of the moon during each of the phases!
November 15th, 2019
This week the first graders learned about synonyms. We discussed words that have the same meanings as other words. Each student selected a word to write on their "synonym" roll and wrote other words on the roll. The students were so excited about how the "synonym" rolls looked and enjoyed seeing what other words their classmates picked.
November 8th, 2019
This week first grade learned about the life cycle of pumpkins! We explored how a pumpkin starts as a seed and discussed each stage of how a pumpkin grows. We did a few pumpkin experiments including dissecting a pumpkin and using our 5 senses to describe the characteristics of pumpkins.
October 22nd, 2019
Our 5th grade friends came to visit us and work on a Halloween mad lib with our class! The 5th graders asked their first grade partner to give them words such a favorite Halloween candy, scary adjectives and Halloween nouns!
October 17th, 2019
This week the students read the story, Jack and the Wolf and The Three Little Pigs. On Thursday, we completed a STEM challenge where students decided which materials they thought would make the sturdiest house. Materials included pretzel sticks, toothpicks, gum drops, marshmallows or wooden skewers. Each group was allowed to pick two materials to build their houses and each house had to securely protect a paper pig from the big bad wolf (we used a box fan!).

APPLE WEEK!!!
Students participated in all apple themed activities this week! ELA centers, math centers and activities were all apple themed. This included reading and learning about how apple trees change during each season.
We also had a taste test between apple juice and apple cider to practice using adjectives and comparison words! Lastly, we made homemade apple sauce and practiced solving word problems using numbers from our apple sauce recipe!

1st grade meeting their 4th grade prayer partners!
1st grade will meet with their 4th grade prayer partner throughout the school year. We will go to a few masses together, complete activities together and of course develop a wonderful friendship with our buddy!

1st grade worked on creating our Noun Town!
Each student thought of different people, places, things and animals to make for Noun Town! The final touch, by popular demand, was to nickname the road in our town "Old Noun Town Road".
