What is cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is when someone uses technology, like smartphones, social media, or the internet, to harass, intimidate, or hurt others. This can include sending mean messages, spreading rumors, sharing embarrassing photos or videos, or excluding someone from online groups.
Classroom Tips:
Be kind online: Encourage students to treat others online with the same kindness and respect they would be in person. Remind them that they're difficult to remove, and harmful posts can spread quickly.
Think before you post: Teach students to think carefully before posting anything online. Remind them that once something is posted, it can make a big difference by supporting the person being bullied.
Know how to report: Make sure students know how to report cyberbullying incidents to a trusted adult, like a teacher or parent, as well as to the platform or website where the bullying occurred. Reporting is important to stop behavior and get help for those involved.
Create a Safe Place: Foster an environment where students feel comfortable discussing cyberbullying and seeking help if they experience it. Let them know that they won't get in trouble for reporting bullying and that their safety and well-being as a top priority.
