As of Fall 2021, Mississippi State's enrollment was 23,086.[21] The university has 160 buildings, and the grounds comprise about 4,200 acres (17 km2), including farms, pastures, and woodlands of the Experiment Station. The university also owns an additional 80,000 acres (320 km2) across the state.

The library is also home to the Congressional and Political Research Center, which is on the first floor. This center, established in November 1999, houses the collections of US Senator John C. Stennis and Congressman G. V. Montgomery, nicknamed "Sonny". Their careers spanned a total of 72 years of service as Congressional leaders. The center also provides research materials and information on individual US Senators and Representatives, the US Congress, and politics at all levels of government. It has begun to take on a significant research and policy role on a state, regional and national level.[28]

The Department of Revenue is the primary agency for collecting tax revenues that support state and local governments in Mississippi. This website provides information about the various taxes administered, access to online filing, and forms.

The Department of Revenue is responsible for titling and registration of motor vehicles, monitoring ad valorem assessments throughout the state to ensure consistent appraisal and valuation of properties among the municipalities and counties of the state, enforcement of Mississippi's Prohibition and Local Option Law and operating as the wholesale distributor of alcoholic beverages.

House Bill 1733 of the 2023 Legislative Session was signed into law on March 27, 2023. This bill amended Miss. Code Ann. Section 27-7-17 to revise the methods of depreciation that may be used for certain expenditures and property for state income tax purposes. This bill is effective from and after January 1, 2023.

Located on the campus of Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS, the Mississippi State Chemical Laboratory (MSCL) is a state-appropriated regulatory agency for the State of Mississippi as well as a fee-for-service laboratory.

The Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners ("the Board") is a legislatively-mandated state regulatory agency charged with the responsibilities of examining, licensing, registering, and regulating the practices of dentistry and dental hygiene to ensure competency (through examination and licensure) and ethics (through registration and regulation) among all dental professionals in the State of Mississippi for the ultimate goal of safeguarding and enhancing the health and welfare of the citizens of this State. As such, the Board is neither affiliated with nor functions as a subsidiary of any private or professional organization.

Mississippi State University provides an estimated annual economic impact of $1.8 billion to the Magnolia State. The university provides a strong return on investment for taxpayers, students and society, as shown by a study by international economic modeling company Emsi on behalf of MSU. MSU's $1.8 billion economic impact supports 29,016 jobs, or one out of every 55 jobs in Mississippi, with every $1 of public money invested in the university generating $2.30 in value. Emsi's study, conducted last year, is based on data from fiscal year 2018-2019. The study supplies a conservative methodology focused on recognized indicators of net economic impact, and shows the impact of MSU through education programs that produce highly qualified graduates in hundreds of fields and by creating an innovative economic environment where research and development thrive. MSU directly assists the people of Mississippi with strategic extension and outreach in every county of the state.

The state capitol is the third capitol building built in the capital city of Jackson. The first building was completed in 1822, the second building in 1833 and the current capitol building was completed in 1903. The building was erected onthe site of the old state penitentiary and was designed by Theodore Link, an architect from St. Louis, Missouri. Thebuilding cost $1,093,641 dollars, which was paid by the Illinois Central Railroad by the back taxes they owed the state.

The Beaux Arts style building was designed to house all branches of the Mississippi state government. Currently, only theLegislature and the executive branches are contained in the capitol. The judicial branch is housed in the Gartin JusticeBuilding across High Street.

The grounds of the capitol building contains one of the 53 replicas of the original Liberty Bell and a statue erected in memoryof the ladies, mothers, sisters, wives and daughters of the Confederate soldiers. Among the trees on the grounds are the statetree, the magnolia, along with two Japanaese magnolias. The battleship figurehead is from the second USS Mississippi. Theship was sold to Greece in 1914 but the figurehead was presented to Mississippi by the United States Navy in December 1909.

The State Chief Deputy Fire Marshal is charged with the enforcement of Mississippi Fire Prevention Code,Miss. Code Ann. 45-11-101, regarding the inspection of all buildings owned by the state or state agencies, places of public assembly and sprinkler systems of high-rise buildings. In addition, the State Chief Deputy Fire Marshal is charged with regulating ManufacturedHousing, Miss. Code Ann. 75-49-1, which requires licensing of dealers, manufacturers, and independent contracted installer/transporters.Also, the State Chief Deputy Fire Marshal serves as the State Administrative Agency (SAA) for the Department of Housing Urban Developmentfor the State of Mississippi. e24fc04721
